Perva
Designed by Emerson Eller, Perva is a multiple classification font family. This typeface has three styles and was published by Eller Type.

Perva is a suite of three eye-catching fonts inspired by display types from the 19th century. This unconventional family has three different font styles that can be used individually or combined to build a playfulness multi-typeface design system. It is suitable for titling, posters headlines, book covers, packaging, social media, and branding.
Perva brings together a Slab serif font, a.k.a Antique or Egyptian; a Reverse-contrast or Italian; and an Old English Blackletter.

The design is inspired by the display types listed as “Typographic monstrosities” in Thomas C. Hansard’s book Typographia (1825).
What he found absurd was understood here as interesting and enjoyable to introduce a contemporary approach of the types widely sold by foundries such as Bruce’s New York Type-Foundry and Caslon Foundry.

Each of the three fonts holds around 400 glyphs, covering the languages of Northern, Western, Central, and Southern Europe. Opentype features include case-sensitive forms and a couple of alternates for the Blackletter style.

Alacant
Designed by Olcar Alcaide, Alacant is a slab serif font family. This typeface has fourteen styles and was published by Eurotypo.

Alacant is a family of slab serif fonts composed of seven weights and their versions in italics. One of the most characteristic advantages of this font is its particularly square shape, very short descenders, open counter-forms and precise kerning that provides a very good visual impact and clear legibility.

Sporting Event JNL
Designed by Jeff Levine, Sporting Event JNL is a slab serif and wood type font family. This typeface has two styles and was published by Jeff Levine Fonts.

A British boxing film from 1953 called “The Square Ring” had its titles and credits hand lettered in a slab serif type style commonly referred to as “Egyptian”.  Other familiar type fonts which share this influence are Karnak, Stymie and Beton.

Sporting Event JNL was modeled from the film’s titles and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

TT Globs
Designed by Antonina Zhulkova and TypeType Team, TT Globs is a display slab and slab serif font family. This typeface has four styles and was published by Typetype.

Attention! TT Globs does not support Cyrillic, the font only supports Latin.

About TT Globs: TT Globs is the first font from the TypeType Starter Kit line, which is aimed at providing designers with fashionable typefaces featuring the basic set of font instruments of the same quality and development level as in the main TypeType line.

The main differentiating feature of the line is the basic number of styles (only the most popular weights), absence of Cyrillic support, and a very thought-through character font composition without extra features and other superfluous elements. Thanks to such an approach, fonts from the TypeType Starter Kit line are democratically priced and are affordable for many designers.

We were inspired to develop TT Globs by the idea to unite historical slabs with contemporary perceptions about fonts, their uses, and display shapes of letters. Working on the typeface, we even wanted to make curves more mechanical and rather modular, which would be very much in contrast with the cozy lines from historical specimens.

The main visual features of TT Globs are the long display serifs, which create a unified text image and connect all the letters, especially uppercase, into an almost uninterrupted dynamic chain. Thanks to the long serifs and rather narrow spacing, the result of working with the text will always be a little different, and depending on the words you choose, you can even create particular images.

In addition, TT Globs stands out by its very wide letter proportions, tall lowercase characters, and long ascenders and descenders. To mix up the rigid font rhythm, we created asymmetric wave-like terminals and flowing elements in some letters. Specifically, the flowing shapes of the letters GSQRasgec can be mentioned in this regard—they attract attention and can even serve as an important element in a logotype.

The TT Globs font family consists of 3 weights (ExtraLight, Light, Regular) and one variable font. Each style has 625 glyphs and 26 OpenType features. An interesting feature of thetypeface is the stylistic alternates, for instance, Q and R with straight legs which make the font feel more serious. In addition, the font also has a set of alternative letters with sticking serifs, a set of beautiful ligatures, and several original icons and frames.

TT Globs OpenType features: aalt, ccmp, locl, subs, sinf, sups, numr, dnom, frac, ordn, pnum, tnum, case, dlig, liga, calt, ss01 (Alt. Latin Q, R), ss02 (Alt. Latin a, g, y), ss03 (Alt. German Eszett), ss04 (Alt. Latin K, M, W, X, k, m, w, x), ss05 (White Circled Numbers), ss06 (Black Circled Numbers), ss07 (Romanian Comma Accent), ss08 (Dutch IJ), ss09 (Catalan Ldot), ss10 (Turkish i).

Designed by Jeff Levine, Local Druggist JNL is a display slab and slab serif font family. This typeface has two styles and was published by Jeff Levine Fonts.

“Ghost Signs” are the visible remnants of hand-painted signs on buildings where the original business had long closed or moved, yet the lettering had survived the passing years.

Designed by Rian Hughes, Albiona Soft is a serif and slab serif font family. This typeface has ten styles and was published by Device.

A rounded version of Albiona, a contemporary slab-serif which revisits aspects of Robert Besley’s classic Clarendon. Originally named after the Clarendon Press in Oxford, the type family was subsequently extended by Stephenson Blake in the 1950s.

Albiona adds the inwardly-curved stroke terminals of the same foundry’s Grotesque series, and includes italics and old-style and tabular numerals. The original Clarendon’s ball serifs and calligraphic eccentricities have been rationalised for functional contemporary uses. The family consists of five weights plus italics and a stencil, and its clean readable style is perfect for both extended text as well as headline setting.

Designed by Francesco Canovaro, Andrea Tartarelli, Mario De Libero and Sofia Bandini, Amazing Slab is a slab serif font family. This typeface has twenty-one styles and was published by Zetafonts.

Amazing Slab is a typeface family designed by Francesco Canovaro and Andrea Tartarelli as a development of the Amazing Grotesk family designed by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini. Mixing an egyptian serif, low contrast approach with the curved endings and open shapes of humanist sans grotesques, it was developed to embody the energetic and friendly nature of the startup scene: a feeling of innovation, information and energy, with a desire for simplicity and straightforward communication. The basic design shapes for the font come from the strong personality of the extrabold letterforms drawn by Francesco Canovaro for his StartupItalia logo, that informed the display design of the four darkest weights (from medium to black). Each of these weights, has been paired with an inline version, designed by Mario De Libero, to extend the range of uses for the typefaces, from bold signage to logo design, to editorial titling.

The lighter range of the family features two weights (regular and light) that are designed for text use, complemented by the thin and extralight weights that are better suited to big point size, for editorial and signage use.

All the weights of Amazing Slab, as well the matching true italics forms, feature an extended charset of over 900 glyphs, covering 211 languages using latin, cyrillic and greek alphabets, and sporting a complete set of Open type features including positional numbers, annotation and case-sensitive forms, standard ligatures and a wide array of stylistic sets to customize glyph shapes for logo and display usage.

With its friendly, energetic mood and its versatile range of application use, Amazing Slab is born to make every design project look simply… amazing!

• Suggested uses: old signage, logo design, editorial titling, display

• 21 styles: 8 weights, 8 italics, 4 inline styles, 1 variable font

Download Gravtrac Fonts Family From Typodermic Fonts Inc.
Designed by Ray Larabie, Gravtrac is a slab serif font family. This typeface has fifty-six styles and was published by Typodermic Fonts Inc.

Gravtrac is a slab serif headliner designed to deliver solid punches while taking up as little horizontal space as possible. Inspiration comes from mid twentieth century classics: Univers 59 Ultra-Condensed, Helvetica Inserat and Compacta. It’s all about flat sides, a steady rhythm and tight, precision curves. The widest style of Gravtac is Condensed—compact, yet a comfortable read, available in 7 weights from Ultra-Light to Heavy. Gravtrac Compressed is probably the width where most typefaces would quit. It’s narrow enough for most…but not for you. That’s why we have Gravtrac Crammed. It’s audaciously narrow—perfect for times where you want the reader to slow down and truly pay attention to the message. Gravtrac Crushed is devilishly slender. Try it with wide tracking for a stark, opulent look. All styles are also available in obliques varying from 7 to 10 degrees—58 styles in total. Gravtrac includes Opentype fractions, numeric ordinals, a breadth of currency symbols and old-style (lowercase) numerals. Almost all current Latin based languages are supported as well as Greek and Cyrillic. Every skilled designer already has slab serif typefaces in their stockpile but some of us have the need to squeeze.

Download Fried Chicken Fonts Family From FontMesa
Designed by Michael Hagemann, Fried Chicken is a slab serif font family. This typeface has thirty-two styles and was published by FontMesa.

The name of this font brings back memories of an old fried chicken restaurant in Willow Springs Illinois circa 1960’s and 1970’s, my family would all get in the car and take a long drive down to an old country road Illionis Rt 171 through a forest preserve where we’d come upon the old Willowbrook motel with a bar and restaurant next door.

The restaurant was called Kegal’s, when you entered the building you had to walk through the smoky bar first to get to the restaurant, I can still see the hard wood floors with all the finish worn off from decades of foot traffic.

Up until the mid 1960’s Kegal’s used to raise their own chickens behind the restaurant, back then fried chicken in the Midwest was either coated in flour or bread crumbs, Kegal’s was covered in a beautiful layer of golden bread crumbs.

Before your meal arrived they’d bring a basket of dinner rolls along with crackers, bread sticks and country butter, on the side they’d serve coleslaw with a vinegar sauce, which is very common in the Midwest, the first time you try it your face puckers up like you just sucked on a lemon but you get used it over time.

After waiting for what seemed like forever to a child the waitress comes out of the kitchen with a huge tray of that golden deliciousness and your mouth begins to water, in her other hand was another tray filled to overflowing with crinkle cut french fries all made by hand, I’d eat a hole handful of those french fries first then take a bite of that tender juicy farm raised chicken.

Today a fine Italian restaurant occupies the old Kegal’s building and the motel is long gone, only my fond memories remain.

Fast forward to 2020 and FontMesa has just made some Fried Chicken as an eight weight type font family with alternates.

With the Fried Chicken slab serif font family we’ve broken some rules by removing a few of the slabs on certain letters for a unique homemade look.

Fried Chicken is perfect for your next product label, t-shirt design, logo,  headline or cookbook cover.

Treat yourself to some good ol’ Fried Chicken today.
